About the Salish Root Project

Our Mission

The Salish Root Project is dedicated to researching, documenting, and sharing the deeper root structure of the Salish language. Grounded in decades of study, the project explores root families, semantic orientation, and the worldview carried through language, while building a foundation for greater public understanding, preservation, and future access.

Why This Work Matters

The deeper root structure of the Salish language holds knowledge worth preserving and sharing.

Many Salish words have been understood as isolated meanings, without showing the larger root families and structural relationships that connect them. The Salish Root Project works to help document those deeper patterns so they can be better understood, preserved, and made accessible for future generations.

Research Journey

This work has grown through decades of research, discovery, and commitment.

The Salish Root Project comes out of long-term work with the Salish language and a deepening effort to understand its root structure more fully. What is shared here is part of an ongoing journey of research and documentation that continues to open new connections, root families, and ways of understanding the language.
